All Good Things must End

And, so I hope, do all bad things.  2010 has not been the best of years by any stretch of the imagination, for us...It started off with a death in the family, and went downhill from there.  There have been some high points, but all in all, I am praying that 2011 starts off better, and continues uphill through the end of the year.

May your New Years Eve be a safe one, and New Years Day bring joy and friendship to you.
I know I'm a day early, but if you know me for very long, you'll find that there is only one thing I put off until the last minute...TAXES!

Merry Christmas

Happy Birthday Jesus!

And now, what gift did you get today.
Was it a new dress, new shoes,
a new car?
Breakfast in Bed?
Just what gift did you receive to celebrate
Jesus' Birthday?
What did I get, you ask.
I got the gift of Eternal Life,
that is the gift I got for Jesus' Birthday.
Do you have that gift, yet?

So....

...............
What's on tap for Christmas Dinner at your house?
Will it be traditional? Regional?  or just plain outlandish?
Several years ago, we made the decision that everyone was sick and tired of ham, turkey,
dressing, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, orange slice cake,  and green bean casserole, after about 3 different meals of it at different relatives homes.
We decided to start our own tradition and it will continue this year, unless someone else decides differently.  If we have dinner at my house, I fix the main dish, it is my choice, and everyone else supplies the desserts and veggies. It may be mexican chicken,  spaghetti and meat sauce, fried catfish with all the trimmings, chicken fried steaks, or chicken enchilidas, whatever suits our fancy at the time we get the menu together. We've discussed the menu, and I think this year we will be having mini pigs in a blanket, chip and dip, cheese balls, veggies and dip, and whatever what is brought for dessert.  We'll be doing our get together on Christmas evening, with all the kids.  This gives everyone a chance to be home and enjoy their gifts on Christmas morning, without having to rush off to somewhere else, or start cooking right after breakfast.  So, if you are coming to my house for Christmas, and you don't like any of the above menu, call ahead, and I'll stick a couple of Banquet Turkey and Dressing TV dinners in the microwave for your dining pleasure.

So who is excited about Christmas..

I laughed today, as grandson started shaking his present, and keeps asking if I am sure I actually put the gift inside...He shook his cousin's present, then his again, then cousins, then his.  He keeps telling us that cousin's present makes a noise, and his doesn't, they are the same size, so why doesn't his make a noise.
Four more days, and he will find out what is in that box, and I hope he enjoys it as much as I've enjoyed him shaking and shaking and wondering, and even offering to open it to see if there is actually anything inside.  'But, we can rewrap it, once I'm sure...'

Christmas Gags

This afternoon, I had a message from my daughter in law, asking about Christmas Gift plans.  Several years ago, we all made the decision to purchase only for the 'kids' in the family, since none of us enjoyed shopping that much, and none of us have an unlimited supply of money.  She left a message asking if that was still the plan.  I called her, and when she answered, I told her no, the plan had changed, that this year, everyone was supposed to buy 'hubby and me' the gifts, instead of the kids.  We had a great laugh about it.

The only thing I miss about giving each other gifts, is the unique way we had of of playing tricks on each other.  There is the year that we opened and washed a Campbells soup can, without damaging the label, and put a gift card in it, weighted the can,and glued the bottom back on.  When daughter in law unwrapped the package, she sat there with the strangest look on her face, but was afraid to say anything, I'm sure she thought she'd gotten the gag gift of the year.  We finally quit laughing, and told her open the can by popping the top.  After we showed her the glued on bottom, I'm sure she used the same gag on someone else.

About 12 years ago, at an auction, I ended up with with a 'velvet painting' in some other things I bought.
My son in law commented that 'it may be valuable', of course he was joking, but I went along with it, and laughed.  But there was a seed planted in my mind, so on Christmas, I got a beautiful roll of wrapping paper, and some heavy cardboard.  I wrapped that terrible picture up really really well, lots of tape, and with beautiful ribbon bows.I'd never pulled that kind of gag on him before, so son in law started ripping paper to get to the 'good stuff'. You should have seen his face, when he realized the gag I'd pulled on him, in front of the whole family.

Since that time, you never know when that picture is going to show up again.  We used it, with a nice gift card to Lowes, attached to the back, when youngest daughter purchased her house.  I received it last, for Mother's Day a year or so ago, but grandson almost let the cat out of the bag, when he said something about a picture.  It is hanging in my back room right now, waiting for the day when everyone has forgotten about it, so it can be brought out again, for other's viewing pleasure.

Several people who know this story, always ask who got the picture this year.
So, do you have any special traditions in your family?

I tried, I really did

I've had trouble posting on here, the last couple of times that I've tried.
I'd get it all written out, then it will tell me I need to sign in, even though I'm supposed to be signed in to start posting.  By the time I get signed in, the post has gone to blogger hades, never to be seen again.
One was even a funny post, and I could hear you chuckling as I typed it, figuring it would be entertaining to you.  Well, when it disappeared, I didn't think it was too funny.

Idiot soon to be x sil is disappearing this weekend, and yes, it is his weekend....he's even leaving a day early, so I'll be taking gs to school tomorrow. And now word has drifted down that he's 'seeing' one of daughter's friends, or used to be friends.  Guess the one that got a divorce, that spurred this divorce, figured out he didn't have as much money, since daughter's paycheck wasn't paying for everything.  .

BTW, has anyone mentioned to you that Christmas will be here in just over 7 days....?  I guess that means that I'd better get out and find a couple of gifts..I've not purchased anything except some oils and butters...
May your soap float and your perfume be smelly.

Cold Colder Coldest...

Well folks, it seems that the weather is terrible even in the usually glorious south.
My friends in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and even Georgia are all crying foul over the heavy snow and just plain cold.  Now one friend in South Louisiana invited us all down to her house, where it is in the mid 50s today.
My location has been 34 degrees for a high today and the wind chill kept it in the 20s.
So what do you do if it is too cold to be outside?
We at lunch at our 'favorite spot' with the others who rather pay than do the cooking.
Then we stopped at the grocery store, got some peanuts to roast, and
came home, put a cake in the oven, and peanuts went in a short time later.
Now I'm waiting  for the chicken and mushroom soup to get done.
There is wood on the porch for the fire, and there is plenty of food.

Saturday, rain and deep thoughts

Or maybe they aren't so deep after all.

I mentioned a few days ago how sometimes Sisters at Heart were closer than
birth sisters.

I have 2 birth sisters,
#1 has been a manipulator, thief, user, and drug addict for the past 35+ years.  A licensed nurse who has been caught stealing patients medications on more than one occasion. Yes, there is proof, I've read the letters from the state board of nursing when they pulled her license. She got mad because I wouldn't let her buy me groceries with her food stamps, and me give her cash. She hasn't spoken to me since. this incident.
At the time she was living with a couple who wish not to be named, and she was paying them nothing.
She came up behind me and aimed her car at me  in a grocery store parking lot, about 5 months ago, and missed me by inches, all the while cackling like the witch on Wizard of Oz.

I used to wish for a sibling, now I'd give anything to take that wish back.

#2 I'll talk about that, in awhile.

Whats for dinner?

Do you have Popeyes Louisiana Cajun Restaurants
in your area?  We had a little trip that we had to make today
and on the way home, we stopped to eat since hubby didn't want beef stew again, today.
So we stopped at Popeyes in a town near here. After looking at the menu, we orderd Crawfish and fries..
Have you ever had Crawfish?
It is pretty darned good, but hubby thought it was a little spicy for his liking.
So what did you have for dinner tonight?
When was the last time you tried a new dish?
Or a new restaurant?
We've eaten at Popeyes before, but we had chicken the last time we were there, it's good, too.
I tend to like mexican, but lately, It isn't what I've been wanting, and I like chinese, but, that wasn't what I wanted tonight.
Maybe next week.

What is your favorite song?

What type music do you like?
What song, when you hear it, makes you just want to stop and listen?

I like almost every kind of music, and there is even some Rap that
is not too bad.  It isn't something I listen to often, and usually not by choice.
Some of the best Rap that I ever heard, was from some kids waiting for the bus
at one of the local schools.

But, let's face it this old girl prefers Country, but not all country...
I like a catchy tune as much as anyone, and George Jones can sing
"He Stopped Lovin her Today" to me just any time or any place.
I also like Gospel, and our Minister can bring down the house with his
voice.  He doesn't have to preach, just give him a good song, and we'll stay
until he gets tired.  I love the old songs, Amazing Grace, Old Rugged Cross,
In the Garden.
So now, tell me what you like.

Birthdays Birthdays Birthdays

Starting with Daughter in Law, we have birthdays on the 3rd, hubby's sister is on the 5th, and hubby's birthday is the 6th of December.  That is a lot of cake.

Then my twin's birthday is on December 12th, you see, I am the older twin, I was born about 22 days before she was.  I'll bet each of our parents would be a bit confused over this twin thing, since our birth certificates say nothing about multiple births.  But I learned long ago, that being siblings doesn't make you close, and being sisters at heart, doesn't require 'common' parents, or even living in the same area. I'm actually closer to my sisters at heart, than I am my actual siblings. I guess some may wonder why I can feel this way, but that is a story for another day.  Today, we're celebrating birthdays, those already past, and those yet to come.  And  on December 25th, we will celebrate the most important birthday of all, the birth of Jesus Christ, So, how many  Birthday Cards will you be mailing out to celebrate Christ's birth, this year?  It really isn't about the gifts we recieve, or give, at this time of year, the only gift we can give Jesus, is loving and treating each other well.

Trying again, to post that photo

I really don't know what the issue is with
my posting photos here.
I've been posting them on another blog for years.
Anyway, I'm going to try and post that same photo again.
Same information, this photo was taken between 1848-1851.
The apparatus that is behind his head, is to hold the
person steady, while the photo was taken, as it took
quite awhile to actually take the photo. These were used until about 1850 in
large cities, but I suspect that it could have been in use later than that
in the 'boonies', where he lived.
This person is my great great grandfather, handsome dude isn't he?
He had brown hair, and blue gray eyes, and was about 6 ft tall, according to the wanted posters.
Diana, this is the photo I'd have liked to have had on the front of that book.
I'd love to have spent just a day with him and my great great grandmother.
He died December 1867.

Idiot Proof, NOT

OK, trying again, to post a photo.
As you can tell, if this picture posts, it isn't of this century, or even last century.
In fact, this one was taken around
1848-1851
And I finally found the right button, which should allow me to post a picture, again.
I'm not tellin what the problem was
let's just say that
A Mouse hit the wrong button, and it stuck

Four letter weather word

For those of you from the 'frozen north' I'm sure this weather in the southern part of the country would probably bring out the shorts and tees. For us below the Mason Dixon Line, anything below 50 makes our blood as thin as water, and we start shivering in our heavy winter clothing.
Yes, the temp outside is 50, but it is dropping tonight and by sometime Sunday night the weather forcasters are saying 4 letter words for some areas in the region.
Go to the grocery store on a day that 4 letter word is mentioned, and you'll find people grabbing things off the shelf, as if they may get '4 letter word then add ed' in for weeks. I only remember 3 times that we got '4 l w, add ed inserted here' for more 2 days, and actually one of those was a 3 letter word, starting with I and ending with CE. It even forced Santa to delay things for a day or two when items were on lay-away, back when they actually had lay-away at stores.

Wondering why I don't have the option to insert photos on this blog, again

Have you ever gotten into something?

And no matter how hard you try, you can't get out of it?
A few months ago, a group I am in, decided to do a Recipe book exchange, I didn't sign up, but I mailed the one in charge a book I had to give away in a drawing, and she won it. Well, my name got on the list, accidentally.
for the past 3 months, I've continued to explain 'don't send me any more cook books'.. I ship the ones that arrive, off to whoever they tell me to send them to, think I'm in the clear, and then another package arrives....
I recieved 3 today...I've yet to cook a recipe from one of the books, so this is getting a little expensive. For what I've spent on shipping, I could have gone out to eat.
Not complainin, just sayin

Christmas Cards and Roller Skates....

Have you seen the HP commercial for their printer?  Yes, the one with the baby in the walker passing everything on the highway!
I love that song, I hate to admit I remember when it was played on the radio, but I do...
Now to do my Christmas cards while I sing this.

I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I roller skated to your door at daylight
It almost seems that you're avoiding me
I'm ok alone but you've got something I need

Well, I've gotta brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together
And try them out ya see
I've been lookin' around a while
You got somethin' for me
Oh, I gotta brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

I ride my bike, I roller skate, don't drive no car
Don't go too fast, but I go pretty far
For somebody who don't drive I've been all around the world
Some people say I've done all right for a girl
Oh yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah-yeah

I asked your mother if you were at home
She said yes, but you weren't alone
Oh sometimes I think that your avoiding me
I'm ok alone but you got something I need well

I've gotta brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together
And try them out ya see
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
Oh, I gotta brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
Oh, I gotta brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
Oh, I gotta brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
Oh, I gotta brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key......

Where is the line to see Jesus...

You'll have to view this as kind of like NanaDiana's Magazine Mockery, I didn't write it, I just copied it, just as she didn't take the pictures she writes about..  I'd love to hear the song, though.  I haven't clicked on the link, since I'm at the end of the earth, internet wise.

While at the mall a couple of years ago, my then four year old nephew, Spencer, saw kids lined up to see Santa Claus. Having been taught as a toddler that Christmas is the holiday that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, he asked his mom, "where's the line to see Jesus"? My sister mentioned this to my dad, who immediately became inspired and jotted words down to a song in just a few minutes. After putting music to the words, and doing a quick recording at home, he received a great response from friends. He sent the song off to Nashville without much response, except for a Christian song writer who suggested adding a bridge at the end of the first chorus. My dad then asked if I wanted to record the song to see what we could do with it. I listened to the song, made a few changes to the words to make it flow better, and we headed to Shock City Studios. It was at the studio where Chris, owner and producer, rewrote the 2nd verse and part of the chorus... with goosebumps and emotions high, we were all hopeful and felt like we had something special. The demo was recorded in just under 2 hours and sent off again to Nashville ... still no response. Then 2 weeks before Christmas last year, my cousins Greg and Robbie decided to do a video to see what we could accomplish on YouTube. The first day we had 3000 hits and it soared from there. We received e-mails, phone calls, Facebook messages from people all over asking for the music, CD's, iTunes, anything... we had nothin'. After a couple of meetings with Chris following the amazing response, we got serious. We headed back into the studio this past spring... this time with guitars, drums, bass, pianos, choirs... the real deal.... and here we are today. Getting iTunes set up, a website put together, and loving that thousands upon thousands of Christians have come together... remembering the true meaning of Christmas. Out of the mouths of babes come profound truths that many adults can not understand. Hopefully Spencer's observation will cause people all over to reflect on the love of Jesus, and that one day we will all stand in line to see Him. We are most thankful to our Heavenly Father to have this chance to share our music with you.  Merry Christmas everyone.
I looked up the lyrics:

Where's The Line To See Jesus?

Christmas time was approaching, the snow is starting to fall,
Shoppers choosing their presents, people filling the mall,
Children waiting for Santa with excitement and glee.
A little boy tugged my sweater, looked up and asked me,

Where's the line to see Jesus? Is He here at the store?
If Christmas time is His birthday, why don't we see Him more?
Where's the line to see Jesus? He was born for me.
Santa Claus brought me presents, but Christ gave His life for me.

As I stood in amazement at this message profound,
I looked down to thank him, he was no where around.
The little boy at the mall might as well have had wings
As the tears filled my eyes, I thought I heard him say,

Where's the line to see Jesus? Is He here at the store?
If Christmas time is His birthday, why don't we see Him more?
Where's the line to see Jesus? He was born for me.
Santa Claus brought me presents, but Christ gave His life for me.

In the blink of an eye, at the sound of His trump,
We'll all stand in line at His throne.
Every knee shall bow down, every tongue will confess,
That Jesus Christ is Lord.

Where's the line to see Jesus? Is He here at the store?
If Christmas time is His birthday, why don't we see Him more?
Where's the line to see Jesus? He was born for me.
Santa Claus brought me presents, but Christ gave His life for me

Reflections, page ll

I was pregnant with youngest daughter, when we had the wreck mentioned in the last post.  We just didn't know it yet.  This child could find anything, some days I thought she could read my mind.

Miss Priss was 6 in 1984 and was in school, so I felt pretty confident in purchasing Christmas gifts a little early in October.  I'd found the cutest doll on sale, and figured Santa would love to present it to her for Christmas.
I took it to my bedroom, and  hid it under several items beside my dresser.  A couple of days later, she had a slight temp, so I kept her home from school.  About noon I went into my bedroom to fold some laundry on the bed, of course she followed, to 'help'.  Suddenly I hear her squeal, "A DOLL", how pretty.....yes, she had found it, I just pretended I didn't know how it got there.
That same Christmas, I'd purchased several items, and hidden them under my bed, new house slippers, pjs, a few new clothes, that sort of thing.  Christmas morning, Miss Priss, the youngest, would always wake at about 2:30 or 3:00am and guard the tree until the last holdout got out of bed, usually her dad, who, no matter how early he got up every other morning of the year, slept in on Christmas.  Anyway, finally everyone opened their gifts, we had a big breakfast, and that evening we sat around talking about all the presents.  Miss Practical, the older daughter said she'd gotten everything she wanted for  Christmas, except she would have liked a pair of house slippers like younger sister received....I'm sitting there thinking, then jump up and run to the bedroom, where sure enough, her slippers were still under the bed, 12 hrs after they'd opened all their gifts.

And then there was the Christmas...
I was about 5, I guess, and developed a wonderful case of strep throat..I was so sick that I could barely crawl out of bed.  We lived waaaay down a dirt road, not near any other houses, and I was just sure that Santa would never find our house. What do I get for Christmas that year...The only gift I remember was a little 'Doctor's bag' with a toy stethoscope, needle for giving shots, and some candy pills...I took those pills religiously, and they didn't help my throat one bit.  I was sorely disappointed, I can tell you for sure.

Reflections

As we go into the holidays, I am thinking back on some of my favorite Christmas memories.

1.
Starting the year my dh's mother passed away 6 days before Christmas..1972
We had not done any shopping, figuring we would do it on Saturday, then when she passed away, that didn't get done.  She was buried on the 22nd, which meant that we had 2 days to shop, and a 6 year old to entertain while we shopped, without letting Santa out of the bag.  We went into the store, and this was back in the days when you actually had customer service.  A lady who worked at the store could tell we  were kind of lost, I guess, she came up to me and asked could she help.  I quietly explained the situation, and she walked down the toy area, I would point to an item, she would write it down, and when we were through, she gathered it all up, and I went to the checkout, wrote the check, and she helped me get it to the car, while dh got the boy's attention elsewhere in the store.

2.
1977, December 2nd: we were hit head on, while on a grocery run, on a Saturday evening, in a 3 car collision..which meant my car was not drivable.  We had a 3 1/2 year old, and  shopping was fun, at it's best.  The car dealership had totally pixxed me off a few weeks earlier, when I had tried to purchase a new Ford pickup, and they wouldn't sell it to me without my husband's signature.  Yes, he knew about it, in fact, he has sent me to get the truck, because it would cost large $$$s for him to take off work.  After a few days, the dealership had tried to even bring the truck to me, and the owner, who had nixed the deal the day I was there, would call me personally and apologize.  I told them that hecould shove it up his ahem cross ways, I'd buy a truck elsewhere.  Anyway, they heard about the wreck (small town) so they called and offered to go get my car and fix it, and loan me a vehicle free to drive, while it was in the shop, to get back on my good side.  They first loaned me a huge station wagon that the parts department used around town, until they could get me a smaller car. they then loaned me an almost new Pinto wagon, for the next 2 1/2 weeks.   I ran the wheels off that car, since all it was costing me was gas, and it sipped delicately, unlike the larger wagon, which guzzled like a grizzly bear.  We did finally buy a new truck from them, in 1994, after the dealership changed hands. lol.

Anyway, the spare tire well in a Station Wagon is large enough to hide many gifts.

So now you know about the two most memorable, I'll post more later

Buttons and Bows

I have always wanted to make pretty bows, I would see them on other people's packages, and wonder just how they could make them look so great.  My daughter in law, who I must say is a very handy person to have in the family, Thank you for putting up with us, Robyn, can make the prettiest bows I've ever seen.  She is just a really crafty person, she can paint beautiful pictures, decorates other people's homes, and also can make a mean pan of Apple Dumplings.

Anyway, back to the subject.
She had promised to show me how to make pretty bows several years ago, but it seems that every time we were together, there was something else to do, or no one had any ribbon.  Yesterday, we were about to leave, and someone mentioned making bows, and low and behold, there sat a box of beautiful velvet ribbon, so she showed us how to do it.  Of course, hubby was in a hurry, so I told her I would come home and practice on some ribbon I had here.  I had some wired 1.5 inch gold ribbon, so I created a very glittery bow.  I am sure it has it's flaws, but, for a first effort, it ain't too bad.  Now to rush out and buy more ribbon.
Oh wait, there is a closet full, somewhere...

A sad day

You know how there is always someone who sends you a Christmas Card that arrives the day after Thanksgiving? It is always the first one you receive, and you secretly wonder how someone can manage to
think about sending cards, get them all ready, and mailed so that they arrive that day??
Well for the 3rd year in a row, I didn't receive that card.
My friend succumbed to breast cancer 3 years ago.  We'd been friends since my youngest and her oldest child were in 1st grade.  We went through the birth of her youngest, the birth of a granddaughter that she didn't get to see until she was a year or more old (a story for another day) and the weddings of both my kids and hers.
I miss opening the mailbox on the day after Thanksgiving, and finding that card. No other card can replace that one, ever.
RIP Jeannie, I miss you!

I'm a Clock Nut

I am surrounded by clocks in almost every room of my house, some antique, some decorative, and some that are just for convenience. There are 8 visible from where I'm sitting now, and that doesn't include the one on the computer....  So when I found the application to put a clock on my blog, I couldn't resist.
It is an easy site to use, and the selection is great.  I'm wondering if I can add more of them.  I could do one for every time zone in the USA...
I'm wondering if I can put it on my Yuku site, too...have to check into that , tomorrow.
Have a great night,
AnonyaMouse

Happy Thanksgiving to all

I hope the turkey or ham is tender, and tasty, and the guests at your table are polite, and not too hasty.
Our dinner today will be ham, but on Saturday, when the whole family gathers, we'll have pork loin and smoked turkey.
May God Bless and Keep you safe until
we meet again.

Showdown on Apple Street

I've been walking the dog while daughter is at work.  She usually gets off work at 1:00pm, but for the past 2 weeks, she's been working from 7:15 to 5:15 and Pete is crossing his legs by the time she would get home.  So I have been taking him out.

Today, James and I went over at 1:30 so he could have a break, well as I was walking him, a car came by,  very slowly, and stopped one house down.  I went back in, and every time I looked out, they were watching the house.  I stayed about 35 minutes, and finally got James to go see if he knew the car and he didn't, but he did know who the woman, it was Melanie, the woman who lived in that house..So we got in the truck to leave, and she got in the car with whoever was driving, and they drove off.  Apparently, she was trying to figure out who the bright red truck in her neighbor's yard belonged to, also.  Thank goodness, some of the neighbors watch out for each other..

Will they post

This and That

I want to tell why there was no post yesterday.
It wasn't for lack of trying.  I don't know if it was my internet provider, or
an issue with my computer.  I could write the post, but it never would 'complete' the
posting.  I am also having issues trying to post photos here.  They will say that they have
posted, but they don't show up.  I'm going to try one more time, but as a post of just a photo
so I don't lose the whole thing, if it doesn't work.

My turkey is still in the freezer, yikes, it has to come out today, so that by Saturday morning
it will be ready to smoke..No, I don't mean I'm going to give it a cigar and lighter, and tell it to
go to out back, by itself.  I am hoping to convince my other half to get some hickory ready
to start a fire in the smoker.

UPDATE: on the posting, they tell me my account hasn't been activated, lol.
Well, for some reason, I've been able to post, but I've now activated my acct, again
and we'll see if it helps.

Boiled Peanuts and Boiled Okra

I did tell you we'd discuss these items on another day...
I may be from the south, and I may love southern cooking,
but that means the fried stuff.
I can take a little boiled okra in a large pot of vegetable soup.
That is basically the only way I'd ever eat it, and it won't be a lot
of it that way.  I don't know how it tastes, I can't get past the slime
to even try it.  Everyone says to just put it in your mouth, and it will
slide down, no chewing required.  No thanks, I'll pass, I'm not hungry.
It doesn't matter if  I haven't had food in days, I AM NOT hungry.

Boiled Peanuts, they don't serve them here, but a few years ago, I went to Alabama with my hubby, to deliver a load to a steel mill, and we got stuck there for a couple of days.  We were on foot, basically, because you don't tool around in an 18 wheeler, just to sight see.  The dispatcher loaned us his pickup
to go out to eat. We found a motel a few blocks down, and took the pickup back,
and walked to the motel.  We stopped at a little store for some snacks, and
they had a fresh crop of boiled peanuts.  Now I like peanuts about any way you can serve them.
So hubby bought me a big bag and I proceeded to give them a try as we walked on down
toward the motel.    Lets just say that neither of us were too impressed, and whoever cleaned
the room the next morning found a nearly full bag of boiled peanutss as part of their 'tip'.
I hope they liked them a lot more than we did.

What a beautiful day...

No, it isn't warm, and no the sun isn't shining at the moment.  No one is coming to visit, and I'm not headed anywhere, except maybe the grocery store.   But my joints aren't screaming at the moment, my belly is full, and I have a great dh.  (now don't quote me on that, as he can get on my  nerves at a moments notice, and probably will, before the day ends).  I am just in a great mood today.  I plan on doing a couple of projects that I've been thinking about, for awhile.  I also have a book to read, and need to post another chapter of my 'writing' for you to read...

I don't think that cheeseburger needed butter on it, lol, but I will have to give that a try.  Do you put it on the patty, or do you put it on the bun?   There are a few things I won't try, but butter on anything isn't one of them...
Now we will discuss boiled okra and/or boiled peanuts on another day.

And today is the day

What is today the day of, you ask..Today is the day I  finally decided I was going to do something special for myself, every day for the rest of my life.
It doesn't have to cost money, it doesn't have to be anything excessive, just something that I enjoy.  What did I do for myself today? I didn't ask anyone else what they wanted for dinner, I fixed what Ms AnonyaMouse wanted, and had been wanting for several days, Cheeseburgers:  Bet you didn't know that a mouse liked a good burger!

What are yout Thanksgiving plans?

Do you have big plans for Thanksgiving?
Will you be traveling very far, or will your family be traveling to see you?
Turkey, Ham, or both?

For the first time in many years, I won't be doing a big dinner and taking it to my mom's house.  If you've read all my posts, you  know mom has Alzheimers and  is being 'cared for' by others at this time.  So, thi year, it will be us, and our 3 children, their spouses, and children.  For the first time in several years, I'm looking forward to the Holidays.
Have a great Friday, and a great weekend.

OOPs, so I didn't post for a couple of days...

Oh I thought about it, and I meant too, but I had nothing to say!
If you know me, and I know at least a couple of you actually do,
you'll find that hard to believe.

Blogging is hard, at least finding something interesting to talk about.
Maybe when I start drumming for the house band, I can tell you about that.
Or , learning the guitar, now it might be interesting, maybe I'll UTube a video
of that.
Anyway, sorry I'm such a boring person, but I'm glad that things are calm.

Trying again

I've started my post here twice, and gotten interrupted, so I'll try again.
Today is the birthday celebration of two of my friends.  This next week will be
Birthday central, we have the 17th, 18th covered, and then on the 19th there are 3 birthdays, 20th there are 2, and on the 22nd, another friend is celebrating.  On the 18th, we will celebrate all the November birthdays with a pot luck luncheon, hopefully there will be lots of food, and I may bake a cake to share with the other celebrants.

A dear 'sis' of mine will celebrate her special day next month, along with my dh, daughter in law, and of course the most special birthday of all,  the birth of Christ.

Have a great evening,
AnonyaMouse

Songs running through my head.....

Some days I get some song stuck in my head, and can't seem to shake it.
This morning, an old old Tammy Wynette song sneaked in, and so I'm singing:
"Our D-I-V-O-R-C-E became final today, me and little J-O-E will be going away."
Why do I have this song in my head, you ask?  Well, someone very dear to me is going through
a divorce right now, and she and her young son are struggling to learn to deal with the fact that daddy
and husband decided that another woman was more important to him than they are, in his life.
I won't use any names, in case someday they run through blogs, and find this.  They know I blog, but they don't know my 'hidden identity'.

In case you haven't figured out the name, AnonyaMouse, it is a take off on the Anonymous way to post on blogs.  As far as I am aware, only one person knows whose blog this really is, and she isn't going to spill the beans.  Are you Sis?

Mini pigs in a blanket, and other fun stuff.

What would you take, if you were attending a function, and were asked to bring a finger food?

Our church is having a Ladies evening out, except, since most of us are older and aren't allowed out after dark, we are doing it as a Ladies Afternoon out. Anyway, it is mostly to allow the newer members to get acquainted, and have a chance to visit.  Everyone is supposed to bring finger foods, and since I don't usually do finger foods, I decided to make Mini Pigs in a Blanket.  One Crescent roll will make 3, so I figure a couple of packages of rolls, and a package of Lil Smokies, along with some swiss cheese, will work out pretty good.
It will be interesting to see the variety.

It is 11/11/10

And before long all the leaves will be falling from the trees, and I'll be outside raking them into piles, and carrying them to the back to use as mulch in a year or so.

OK, just so you know you aren't 'not seeing things' I deleted the 2 chapters of the story that I'd posted.
I'll post some more  of it later on, but I am going to do some rewriting before I do.

We've been out in the woods for the past two days, enjoying the colors, and visiting some 'hill family'.  I had a chance to do a photo or two of a newborn girl, and I'm going to print the photos and send them to the grandmother, because of the generosity of her husband, in helping us with a project this past week.  He is getting paid, but she had to do the work around the place, while he was helping us.

Sunday posting

I did post the first chapter of  The Door on here yesterday, but by copying and pasting it, it was a scrambled mess, so I removed it.  I'll copy, and paste it into a different format, and repost it later today.
Right now I'm trying to find some clothing to wear to church.  Summer is gone, and I need some warmer clothing.

Saturday frosty morning

Our first frost, this morning.  Winter is around the corner, and I think I'm going to take the opportunity to enjoy it this year.  I'm not a cold weather person, so I try to hang in there, from the time that we hit freezing temps, until spring, when it starts warming up outside.  This winter, I want to go back to writing, and try and restart book #2, into something I can be proud of, and wouldn't care for you reading.  Book #1, I cowrote with a distant cousin, and we had planned to do a sequel, but, 11 chapters into the newest book, I felt that we were heading in the wrong direction, and he didn't see it that way. No one has read the 11 chapters, at least not that I have allowed, and that tells me that I am not happy with them.  One of these days, I'll post a chapter here, and get your opinion.

Friday and a full week of posting

I probably won't be as diligent as my friend, Diana, who posts something every day on her blog, but I'll try to keep it going.
I wanted to be upbeat for Friday and they say a good deed doesn't go unpunished.  Yesterday after thinking about it for several months, I put a book in the mail for a friend.  I had purchased it for her, and just never got it over to her house, so figured if I wanted her to have it before one of us died of old age, I'd mail it.
I called her this morning, and it had arrived, you see, we only live about 13 miles apart.   She is mailing me a new cemetery census in return.  What, you don't know what a cemetery census is, you say? Well, it is a list of all the people who died to get into Pleasant Grove Scotland cemetery, updated to about 3 weeks ago.
And then the phone rings this afternoon, son wanting to know if I am interested in a book of old photos from the newspaper, said when he opened the book, the first photo was his 'aunt' Harriet Morphis.  Actually Harriet is his grandfather's aunt, but lets not split hairs. Anyway when I said yes, he bought it.
So now that you are bored, and wondering about this crazy lady who talks about long dead relatives and census of dead people, you can take a nap.  I'll be going through the book in a few minutes, as he just called and is on his way by here, to give it to me.

Thursday morning, and I'm whining

U would have to know our wild and crazy school district, it's spread all over heck and creation, so lots of bussing going on...
yesterday afternoon, the grandkids were getting off the bus here, it was 45 minutes late, so they were starving and irritable when they arrived.
This morning, we stayed outside waiting for the bus for 45 minutes, then I finally threw on some clothes, put them in the car, and took them to school.  One made it inside just as the bell went off, the other, we were about 10 minutes late, to that school.  We tried to call the 'transportation supervisor' both days, no answer...Now, my humble (not so humble today) opinion is there should be someone at the  'Transportation Supervisor's office answering the phones until the last bus is back inside the parking lot.  But who am I to complain????? I just pay taxes....
Now for a message from our sponsors...
It is sunny and cool, and I'm smiling as I finish my coffee.

Wednesday and upbeat

Most of my votes counted, last night, but I'm well pleased with the results.
Got the dryer working again, small parts make for no dry clothes, but finally found the
part that was bad, and now it works.  Yahooo.

Did ya know that leather can be cleaned with a good quality soap?  I don't mean dawn or palmolive.  Saddle soap, which is to be used on leather, is just a soft soap with lots of moisturizing oils(glycerin) in it, unlike commercial bath soap.

Read any good books lately?  I love to read, and I have read a couple of books that are outstanding.
Maybe I'll post titles and authors tomorrow.
Smile, God loves you, and I hope you love him.

Another day, another dollar!

Today, I  boxed some gourmet soaps that were ordered for Christmas.  My sales this year have improved over last year, at least.  I'd love for them to get to where they were before the recession hit, but this fills some of the gaps and lets me buy a few things that I would have to do without, if I didn't sell them.  The Peppermint Patty fragranced soap is holding the fragrance well. Mr. AnonyaMouse still says it smells like candy.  Hopefully, no one will bite into it, as they did the little chocolate hearts I custom made for a lady who wanted them for teacher gifts. I still laugh, thinking about how that teacher's face must have looked when the bite tasted like soap, but smelled and looked like chocolate.

Yes, Nana, they tried to carry off the gourmet mustards and sauces I'd bought to use for the leftover turkey and ham. I had to practically grab it out of his hand, as he started tucking it into his bag of goodies he was carrying off.  I won't miss those dinners at all.

Day 5 of the rest of my life

Thanksgiving is coming up, and we will be doing it completely different this year.
I'll be doing dinner with my immediate family, 3 children, their spouses, and the grandchildren and maybe the kids inlaws, if they wish to eat with us...We will divide up the different dishes, everyone bringing their favorites and when dinner is over, everyone will clean the kitchen.

Up until this year, I've tried to include extended family, nephews, nieces, and siblings, to please mom.  Most of the time it has been a disaster, they don't show up on time, and either bring nothing, or not enough to feed themselves.  Some days we would eat before they bothered showing up.  I mean 2 hrs late for a meal is unacceptable in my opinion, and when I'm cooking, my opinion counts.  And, as soon as meal is over, they either go outside, and leave the mess for me, or they box up the food, mine included, and leave.  They tried to carry off the condiments 2 years ago!

I hope this doesn't sound too much like a whine fest, but I do have cheese, if it does.

AnonyaMouse is back

Well, things were pretty good yesterday, until the phone rang.
For those who read here, but don't know me, my mother has Alzheimers, and some unscrupulous family
have taken over her care.  Some of her brothers and sisters have finally figured out how badly she has been manipulated, and now feel she is being given something to make her appear worse than she actually is.  I  have been out maneuvered at every turn, so I can only sit back and watch, and hope that things aren't as bad as they make them seem.    All I can do is pray that God watches over her, and makes sure she is kept safe from these people.  But, it does hurt to watch this go on, and know I'm powerless to intervene.

Day 4 at Anonyamouse's House

I don't know what happened to day 3, oh.............. oh yes I do.
I posted something that has  a white font, and so it doesn't show, unless you highlight it.  I thought I changed the color of the font, but I guess it reverted back to white.  Guess I need to go see if I can fix it.

Are you ready for Halloween?
How many of the little 'monsters' are you planning for, for trick or treat?
Will your community trick or treat on Saturday or Sunday?

Day #3

I had posted a poem, and it was in white, so I thought I'd change the color.
guess the joke was on me, as it is not showing up, even hilighted...
learning as I go along with this.

Day 2 of Anonyamouse's House

I'm planning on posting something here every day.  Some days it may be funny, some days sad, and some days just plain witchy.
Todays post, I think I'll go funny.

The Talking Centipede

A single guy decided life would be more fun if he had a pet.

So he went to the pet store and told the owner that he wanted to buy an
unusual pet.

After some discussion, he finally bought a talking centipede, (100-legged
bug), which came in a little white box to use for his house.

He took the box back home, found a good spot for the box, and decided he
would start off by taking his new pet to church with him.

So he asked the centipede in the box,"Would you like to go to church
with me today? We will have a good time."

But there was no answer

from his new pet..

This bothered him a bit, but he waited a few minutes and then asked again,
"How about going to church with me and receive blessings?"

But again, there was no answer from his new friend and pet.
So he waited a few minutes more, thinking about the situation.

The guy decided to invite the centipede one last time.

This time he put his face up against the centipede's house and shouted,
"Hey, in there! Would you like to go to church with me and learn about
God?"

... YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS .......

This time, a little voice came out of the box,

"I heard you the first time!
I'm putting on my shoes!"

Anonyamouse's House

Welcome to my house,  I hope you enjoy your visit, and come back often to see if I"ve done any new stuff.
